In this day and age with the amount of information that is available out there a very old and powerful skill emerged that can help anyone navigate through the amount of data, fake news and confusion that comes with such an amount of information available which is the ability to deliver a powerful contextual summary.
So whatever the length of say whatever you read or hear for that matter, to be able to develop this skill you must ask yourself:
If I were to use just a word to summarize what I just read what would that be?
How about just 3 main words?
How about a single phrase?
The next level to that is the ability to mind map all that information.
This also comes with different levels of in-depth learning, training and applicability.
And the last but not the least important one is the ability to contextualize all the information and transform it to whatever your interlocutor needs to hear to grasp the idea in his own contextual mental model sort of speak.
But also take in account that the people who you are relating to, come from various cultural backgrounds, are members of different economical and professional statuses and also be aware of their own individual background(biography) for this skill applied without the proper due diligence can quickly go south on you on any moment :)
