How to properly start a new business venture

A business consulting session that started by phone and was continued by whatsapp …

This is Marius — a serial entrepreneur and founder of a couple of online sites eager to build businesses that enable him to live his dream lifestyle.

He called me one day to let me know he is starting a new business venture — selling software licenses for starting entrepreneurs and small scale businesses. He basically wants to become an official retailer for products like Windows, Microsoft office and antivirus solutions for businesses.

His plan is to learn the craft(know the products inside-out, benefits, features handling objections and sells, prospecting, cold calling and closing - a training he already started).

But to reach the next level he wants, he also needs to find resources and approach the bigger perspective and automate this business venture through online strategies and digital marketing in order to be able to transform this venture into a new income source to pay for his lifestyle.

He will be dealing with a lot of rejection, failures on top of a chaotic schedule and an emotional roller coaster and in order to succeed, he needs to learn fast from his mistakes, adjust fast to every step, iterate his pitch and scripts and see the patterns from the process in order to create automations and systems that will enable him to scale this venture in the most fastest and sustainable way possible.

Why is this setup ideal(with both offline and online strategies)?

Well simply because cold calling(offline strategy)is a strong way to learn fast how to overcome and deal with rejection, gain volume and start to develop and see the patterns who in turn will help you iterate your own scripts on features and benefits of the products and finalize your own sales copy that in turn can be used integrated to a digital strategy(such as a funnel, Landing Page or e-mail marketing automation) and be used to ease the sales process and even boost the sales altogether.

Marius will also be taking yet another personal development journey as he will need to forge a great mindset, learn some applied skills, gain that much needed resilience and grit in order to be able to stick to the process and stay on course and on track and this article / podcast is part of the accountability of that.

Cold calling vs Online marketing

Luckily for him he has me in his network of friends and I’ve been doing just that for a while now … . From what I could gather from our conversation he needs to build systems that create leads from whatever source he can handle, drive those leads to a Landing Page, onboard the leads to a couple of e-mail sequences(funnels) that will enable him to eventually close those leads faster and without any additional frictions and also enable him to do followups. That’s his plan.
